|
A complete demolish/rebuild of a typically poor planned 80’s commodity unit allowed
sustainable introduction of a series of semi/permeable “gaps” at wall and ceiling
junctions for improved natural airflow, daylight penetration/borrowing flexible space
and honest/robust materiality. In particular the often maligned and poorly conceived
central core wet areas are now pleasant light/airy and
enjoyable/functional spaces.

The brief for a house with second dwelling, this model inverts the second dwelling
to prominence with the primary house at ground
level concealed behind a boundary
wall that supports ‘overgrown’ vines. The house is sited to achieve summer and
winter terraces and outdoor cooking areas. A large timber veranda/screen separates
the 2 dwellings to create a “walled”/ landscaped courtyard in the centre of the plan.
The walled house was conceived as ruins with remnant chimneys and previously
internal spaces ‘converted’ to landscaped courtyards terraces and walkways.

Highly resolved yet deceptively simple, this thoughtful little house built on a modest
budget is planned around an existing tree within a tight building envelope. Although
a contemporary building, the house evokes memories of experiences past. A secure
central breezeway connects the three independent pods whilst providing critical

This suite of bus shelters responds to a complex brief including compliance with
standards, modular design, long lifespan, low maintenance, vandal resistance,
simple site installation, budget and the policies of Noosa Council’s Design Guide.
Subtle variations in design and well-resolved construction details allow these
shelters to be pre-fabricated and unified throughout the shire and adapted to a

In a new approach to the traditional Queensland, build-in-under, this small self-contained
unit combines a remnant masonry wall, slab and drainage, with ply flooring, walls and
ceiling to create a warm welcoming space. The modular sheet set-out and material
junction have been particularly resolved to produce an interior with joinery like qualities.

|
These public shelters have been carefully designed to fit within a family of timber
structures that has evolved with the upgrade of the Coolum Foreshore including the
Coolum Boardwalk, Pt Perry shelters, Tickle Park amenity building and the original
Coolum Board Riders Club House. The exposed hardwood structures are designed
with a low-pitch flat roof to allow universal solar orientation and improved rain and
sun protection in comparison to a more traditional skillion profiled roofed structure.
This building typology is now uniquely recognisable to Coolum Beach.

|
A steel portal frame defined the framework allowing a fully louvered North façade as
an alternative solution to the setback of the line of enclosure on a challenging site.
A lineal spine and ramp gently eases entry to this three-level structure creating a
continual space that maintains privacy but retains connection to views and breezes
of the eastern coastline. This resolution of a site constraint has led to the project’s
